Look at the whole student journey
A recruitment campaign can generate inquiries without creating lasting growth. If students arrive with the wrong expectations or struggle to access support, adding more leads does not address the underlying problem. Acquisition and retention belong in the same conversation.
EON’s Brazilian article connects sustainable growth with educational quality, operational planning and long-term relationships. The idea is broader than a marketing metric: an institution needs to attract students it can serve well and support them after enrollment.
Align the promise with the experience
Start by examining the messages prospective students encounter. Do they describe the course accurately? Are schedules, requirements and support options clear? A campaign that exaggerates the experience may create friction later, even if it initially attracts attention.
Admissions and academic teams should share what they learn. Recurring questions during recruitment may reveal missing information. Recurring difficulties after enrollment may point to a mismatch between expectations and delivery. Connecting those observations helps improve both the message and the experience.
Measure beyond lead volume
Track the path from inquiry to enrollment, then continue observing participation and retention. Separate results by program or acquisition source where the data supports meaningful comparisons. A large number of inexpensive leads is not necessarily valuable if few are a good fit.
Financial sustainability also depends on understanding the cost of serving students well. Marketing should work within the institution’s ability to deliver teaching, support and infrastructure. Growth that overwhelms those resources can weaken the very experience that attracts future students.
Use technology to support relationships
Automation can help route inquiries, send useful reminders and make follow-up more consistent. It should make it easier for students to reach the right person, not create another barrier between them and the institution.
Begin with a practical improvement, such as clearer onboarding or a reliable process for unanswered questions. Review feedback with the people who teach and support students. Sustainable growth comes from a sequence of connected decisions: communicate honestly, recruit thoughtfully, support learning and keep improving the experience.
